The Canon EOS M3 is a camera designed to inspire you to go out and take pictures. It comes with a stylish, elegant, and compact design, and it is a pleasure to operate in every way possible. The images it captures are as good as it gets, and it might be the perfect camera to keep in your bag when you’re trying to capture the city you live in or traveling around.
I received a Canon EOS M3 from Canon, and we took it around Berlin to see what this camera could do. And we were delighted with what came out of it. Below, you can read what we thought about this great mirrorless camera.
I took this camera out into Berlin more times than I did with the Canon G3X, and I must say that this camera was beyond what I expected. Like I said before, I’m not a professional photographer, but this camera is not a professional one, so I took charge of it and decided to give my voice to this review.
It has excellent design and high-quality pictures, a battery that lasts, and an interchangeable lens. Sometimes, it feels a bit slow, and you might think it’s pricey compared to other brands.
A beautiful camera that takes high-quality pictures with an average set of features that sometimes feels too slow for the price you pay.
So, let’s start by talking about the Canon EOS M3 performance.
When I first took the camera out into Berlin, I felt like this was the best camera I ever used. It was speedy, had a lot of picture controls, and could fit inside my jacket pocket. At first, this camera was excellent, but I started seeing some problems after a few days.
The main one for me was how long it takes to focus and take a picture. It didn’t happen that often, but I remember taking the camera out at the U-Bahn Alexanderplatz while walking and trying to take some street photography pictures, and I couldn’t. I couldn’t because the camera took too long to refocus and write on the card. I don’t always do continuous shooting, but I felt like this was such a simple thing, and I still don’t understand why it doesn’t work.
Besides that, I would say that the Canon EOS M3 is one of the best cameras I have ever held.
Now, let’s talk about image quality.
Every picture in this review was taken using the Canon EOS M3, and the image quality is as good as possible. JPGs look clean and sharp until ISO 800. Regarding colors, saturation levels are good, even though the pictures are slightly purple. Nothing big, but you can see it better in the unedited images below.
Canon EOS M3 Design and Features
When it comes to design, there is nothing I can complain about the Canon EOS M3. The body is made of magnesium-alloy/stainless steel that doesn’t feel cheap like a plastic body and doesn’t creak when you grip it tightly. And the vulcanized rubber makes everything feel even more comfortable.
If you’re familiar with Canon’s menu system, you won’t find any problem navigating through all the options this camera will give you. But, if you want something different, you can use the touchscreen that offers all the functionality possible.
One of my favorite Canon EOS M3 features is the tilting screen, which is handy when trying something a little different. The screen can go up to 45 degrees downward to hold the camera up, which is helpful for street photography.
And, if you want to raise your selfie game, the screen can rotate 180 degrees, so you can see yourself on it without any problem.
Summing Up My Experience with the Canon EOS M3
The Canon EOS M3 is a competent player in the mirrorless game. If you are looking for an interchangeable lens camera that is better than a point-and-shoot and smaller than an entry-level DSLR, this might be the camera for you. At least, I have to say that I loved the time I had the camera with me.
I’m pretty sure you will love it as well.
