During our Åland Islands tour in June, we tried to explore these beautiful islands between Sweden and Finland as much as we could. This is how we ended up in Eckerö, where we spend a great day at the beach in Degersand.
Degersand seems to be the best place to stay and rest. Our stay there felt like a pause in time. Around us there was nature and in front of our small cabin we could see the largest sand beach in the Åland Islands and their famous wood heated sauna.
The beach in Degersand is covered with soft sand and glimmering waves that will show you what is the summer in the Åland Islands. People come from all around Åland to spend a day in the sun. This beach in Degersand is the perfect place to rest like we did or to play some beach volley like we saw some people doing.
Without thinking twice, the best feature the beach in Degersand has to offer is the wood heated sauna. This magical sauna is right on the beach and from inside it you can watch the waves go by at the beach and the everlasting nights of the Åland summer.
After a few minutes inside it, you have to do like we did and just jump in the cold water and get your blood running. We did this a few times and we have to say it was great.
We spent the night in one of the five decorated cabins that can be found close to the beach. The cabins are filled with everything we needed. From a microwave to coffee machine, everything you need is there.
But if you don’t feel like cooking, the Café and Restaurant Q is located close by and the food there was great. And the wi-fi, so necessary in our travels, was more than great!
There is also a small camping site that had some trailers with you are looking for something a little different. The camping site is open between the beginning of May until the end of September.
But, if you want to go there some other time, get in touch with them and see what can be done!
Degersand is located in the island of Eckerö in Åland.
