Germany: Way More Than Just Beer & Sausages

Germany is an amazing country with so much to see and do! This page is about my travels through Germany, and I’m excited to share some of my favorite places with you.

We’ll start in Berlin, where we live, where you can explore iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and learn about the city’s fascinating history. Then, we’ll head to Dresden, a completely rebuilt city after World War II. You won’t believe how beautiful it is now!

Have you ever been to Potsdam? It’s home to the incredible Sanssouci Palace and the unique Einstein Tower. We’ll also visit the Bauhaus school in Dessau, a must-see for anyone interested in art and design. And if you’re looking for something different, we’ll check out the Mustard Museum in Cologne!

Come along with me on this virtual tour of Germany. You might be surprised by what you discover!

In the summer of 2022, I stumbled upon a golden Vivitar Panorama on eBay Kleinanzeigen for less than €10. After reading about it in a few blogs, I knew I had to buy it.

When I first visited the Bauhaus school in Dessau, one thing was missing: the Bauhaus sign that appears in most school images. That part of the building was covered with a tarp, and a replacement sign was in place. For years, I wondered when the original sign would be back in place, and I had an answer to that question in the summer of 2024.

Berlin is a city steeped in history, and one of its dark chapters can be seen inside the Stasi Museum in Lichtenberg. Located on Normannenstraße, east of the city center, this museum was once the headquarters of the Ministry for State Security, or "Stasi," the East German secret police. If you're interested in understanding the chilling reality of life under surveillance, visiting the Stasi Museum Berlin is a must.
