It was early June 1945 when LIFE Magazine published an article titled the The Battered Face of Germany showing all the destruction caused by the Second World War in Germany. This article was published not long after the surrender of Germany where, today, we have the Russian German Museum in Karlshorst. In this article you could see amazing pictures made from the air by Margaret Bourke-White who would later be accredited as the first american woman to photograph in the Second World War. Also, the first authorized to fly on combat missions. Her pictures showed the devastation of Germany and show the pattern of destruction caused by Allied air bombing.

One year after Chopin's death, Ludwika Jędrzejewicz took his heart back to Poland in a jar of alcohol, probably cognac, as it was used at the time to preserve organs. His sister hid the precious package during the trip and avoided agents and border officers. She successfully smuggled Chopin's heart to Warsaw, where it was put in a small monument inside the Church of the Holy Cross.

Checkpoint Bravo was the name of one of three Allied checkpoints used by the United States in the divided Germany and Berlin during the years after the Second World War and the Fall of the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park is the biggest of the three war memorials the USSR left in Berlin after the end of the Second World War. It was built to the design of the Soviet architect Yakov Belopolsky as a memorial for 5,000 of the 80,000 Soviet soldiers who died in the Battle of Berlin between April and May 1945. It opened four years after World War II on May 8, 1949, and it used to serve as the central war memorial in East Berlin.
