If you’re like us, you travel with a camera and carry it all the time. With smartphones becoming cheaper, everybody takes a camera, but we only see selfies everywhere. Because of all this, it became hard to surprise somebody with travel pictures since most people only go to the same places and take the same pictures.
But we’re here to solve this problem with our list of the best photo spots in Berlin.
Most people come to Berlin to visit the same places. This is one of the reasons why we started Fotostrasse. We want to bring people to unusual places and help them see the obvious differently. This is why we came up with the list below.
There, you will see our favorite photo spots in Berlin. I will go through Berlin’s less-known and classic sights, from the obvious to the unusual. Take a look!
And if 13 is not enough, you should look at what we wrote about photo spots around Neukölln.
Here is our list of the 13 Best Photo Spots in Berlin
Take a photo stroll around the Landwehr Canal
The Landwehr Canal splits Kreuzberg and Neukölln into one of its parts, but there is more to the canal than just this small part. If you want to see how Berlin behaves differently around the canal, follow it to the Tiergarten and enjoy the trees around it. Or stop in Kreuzberg for a beer on a sunny day and enjoy the company of all the people relaxing in the sun.
Exploring Alexanderplatz
Alexanderplatz is the most famous place in the city together with the Brandenburger Tor, but there is so much to see here that you will find something unique to capture with your camera. From the fantastic view of the TV Tower that you will have from the Park Inn Hotel to the green tiles inside the U-Bahn station, this square has a lot to offer for photography geeks like us.
Don’t forget to explore the area around Alexanderplatz as well!
The classic view of Brandenburger Tor
You cannot visit Berlin without taking a picture of the famous Brandenburger Tor, but everybody has the same picture of it. If you want to try something new you should try to visit it at a different time of the day.
Arrive at the Brandenburger Tor before the tourist comes, and you will get an empty view of it. Or try to get there late at night and the same will happen.
The view from the Victory Column
There are 285 steps to the viewing platform at the Victory Column. You will arrive there a little tired, but the view from the top will take your breath away. From there, you can see the Brandenburger Tor without anything blocking your way.
But the central element here is the Tiergarten! It changes color depending on the time of the year, and it will turn your pictures into works of art.
Tempelhofer Feld, our favorite park in Berlin
We love taking our cameras to Tempelhofer Feld. There you can see the best sunsets that Berlin has to offer and the fact that the park is famous for people doing sports makes it an even more exciting photography spot.
The almost secret Elsenbrucke
A bridge south of the Oberbaumbrucke is not famous but has one of the best views of Berlin and the Spree River. This bridge is called Elsenbrucke, and you can find it in Treptow, close to the Molecule Man. From there, you will have the best angle to capture the Oberbaumbrücke with Berlin Mitte in the background, the TV Tower, and all the rest. It’s beautiful.
The beautiful Oberbaumbrücke
Oberbaumbrucke is not a secret to anyone, but the view from there is so classical that we had to start our list with it. Go there at the end of the day to capture the sunset with the Spree and the TV Tower in the back.
But don’t forget to capture the bridge itself since it is one of the unique bridges in Berlin. This is what we really love about this place.
Exploring Berlin’s Soviet Past
One of our favorite photo spots in Berlin is the famous Soviet Memorial in Treptower Park. There, you will feel like the Cold War never ended and that the Soviet Union still exists in all its glory. The trees and the marble stones on their side work really well to help you capture how great this memorial is.
If Soviet Memorials are your thing, we have an article for you.
Our Favorite part of Friedrichshain
When we came to Berlin for the first time, one of the places that caught our attention the most was the area around Frankfurter Tor. The huge tiled buildings and their towers looked like a memory of other times, and with the TV Tower in the back, they would frame your picture so well that there was no way anybody would ignore it.
Exploring the Government Quarter in Berlin
We love to explore the administrative buildings around the Reichstag. Their architecture is unique, and its geometrical features make every picture amazing. Together with the Spree River, it makes everything even better. This is one of our favorite photo spots for these reasons.
A trip to one of the largest stadiums in Germany
We already mentioned how beautiful we think the Olympiastadion is. From the architectural beauty of its columns to the geometrical way its seats create patterns, the stadium is a must-see, even for people who don’t care much about sports.
A Fairy Tale walk around the Charlottenburg Schloss.
The Charlottenburg Schloss is one of the most famous palaces in Germany; everything there is more than beautiful. But we love to stroll around its garden, trying to capture the castle and the lake behind it in a single shot.
If you visit the Charlottenburg Schloss in winter, you will enjoy it even more due to its great Christmas market!
Exploring Berlin’s architecture
If you are an architecture fan, you already know everything about the Hansaviertel area of Berlin. There, you find buildings designed by the most famous architects of the last century, and their shapes and shadows are precisely what you will need to take that breathtaking picture of Berlin.
These are our favorite photo spots in Berlin, but there are more beautiful places to explore with your camera. Park Nordbahnhof is a lovely place to explore, with the Viktoriapark waterfall and even the most fantastic street in Kreuzberg: Oranienstrasse.
Berlin has a lot of photo spots to explore, and you just need to take your camera around the city to find them all!
