Our Favorite Places for the Best Views of Berlin From Above

Berlin has a rich history and plenty of cultural attractions, but it’s also a city with some fantastic views. Whether you’re looking to take in the city skyline or get a bird’s eye view of some of the best ideas of Berlin, there are plenty of great places to see Berlin from above.

We have lived in Berlin for over a decade and love exploring the city from the top. We wrote this article thinking about the places we have visited and dug through the years and focused on the ones we liked the most.

So you don’t need to waste your time. Spend your time in the city to see Berlin from above.

Here are some of our favorite places for the best views of Berlin from above:

What if I told you that the best place to see Berlin from above is not the on the huge TV Tower in the middle of Alexanderplatz? It might sound weird at first but it makes a lot of sense after you think about it. Do you want to take pictures of Berlin with its main tourist spot in there right? So, you need to go somewhere where the TV Tower can be seen. Somewhere as tall as the tower but way less crowded. That place exists and it is the Park Inn Hotel Alexanderplatz Viewing Platform and I going to tell you everything about it now.

The Park Inn Hotel Alexanderplatz

The Park Inn Hotel Alexanderplatz can be found in the heart of Berlin and offers some of the city’s best views. The Hotel has a rooftop bar called SkyBar that offers panoramic views of Berlin.

The bar is open daily from 4:00 pm to midnight, and it’s a great place to relax and take in the sights. Also, one of our favorite places to bring friends when they are in Berlin for the first time.

Berliner Fernsehturm

The Berlin TV Tower, aka the Berliner Fernsehturm, is the tallest structure in Germany and offers some of the city’s best views. The tower is in Alexanderplatz and stands a whopping 368 meters tall.

You can see the entire city, the Brandenburg Gate, Tempelhof, the Reichstag, and much more. The top floor has an observation deck and a restaurant with breakfast options at 207 meters. The tower is open daily; tickets can be purchased online or at the building.

Berlin Victory Column

Located in the heart of Berlin, the Berlin Victory Column is a must-see attraction for any visitor to the city. Standing 67 meters tall, the column was built to celebrate Prussia’s victories in the 19th century.

It is now a popular tourist destination with a lookout point that will make the Tiergarten look even more beautiful.

Our first time climbing all the way to the top of the Victory Column was back in the Fall of 2017, and we couldn't believe why it took us so long to get all the way there. After the first visit, we were there, at least once, each season. And at the end of 2020, we managed to finally capture the Tiergarten covered in snow from the Victory Column. We knew it was time to finally write an article about it with that in mind.
Crowned with a golden statue above it, the Berlin Victory Column is one of the city must see sights and destinations. And it also has one of our favorite panoramic views of Berlin!

Panoramapunkt on Potsdamer Platz

The Panoramapunkt is a must-visit destination. Located on the top floor of the Kollhoff Tower in the Potsdamer Platz, the Panoramapunkt offers 360º best views of Berlin from its observation deck.

The observation deck is located at a height of 100 meters, offering panoramic views of Berlin’s skyline and iconic landmarks. From the top floor, you can see the Brandenburg Gate, some Berlin Wall trails, the government quarter, and the vibrant neighborhoods of Kreuzberg and Neukölln further away.

When we visited the Panoramapunkt, we took the last available time slot since we wanted to see a sunset from the top of Berlin. The pictures we took were all beautiful, and we know that we will need to bring some of our friends there. We loved the time we spent there.
The Panoramapunkt is a viewing platform right above Potsdamer Platz, the 25th floor of Kollhoff-Tower. This is one of the tallest buildings in Berlin, and it bears the name of Berlin architect Hans Kollhoff. He was one of the designers responsible for the new Potsdamer Platz built after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of the country.

Klunkerkranich in Neukölln

If you’re looking for a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience in Berlin, the Klunkerkranich is a must-visit destination. Located on the roof of a shopping center in the Neukölln neighborhood, the Klunkerkranich is a hidden gem that offers stunning city views and a laid-back atmosphere.

The rooftop terrace at the Klunkerkranich is a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, with plenty of seating and various plants and greenery. The views from the balcony are breathtaking, with panoramic views of the city and the nearby Tempelhof Airport.

Before there was Klunkerkranich, I used to go to the top of the parking lot over Neukölln Arcaden. My idea was to take pictures of the city from one of the tallest buildings in the neighborhood. Everything changed around 2013 when a bar took over the area that I used to to to photograph.

Dörferblick in Rudow

Dörferblick is an 86-meter-high mountain made of debris from Berlin. This mountain started to grow in 1958, during the post-war period. But it only became as high as it is today after the construction of the Berlin Wall.

Since the landfills in Brandenburg couldn’t be reached anymore, all the garbage from Berlin needed to go somewhere, and this place was the Dörferblick. In the middle of the 1970s, Berlin turned the area into a recreational park from where you can see Berlin from a completely different angle.

This might be an excellent place to explore Berlin outside of the Ringbahn.

One of the Tallest Mountains in Berlin that you never heard of

Viktoriapark in Kreuzberg

Viktoriapark is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike in Berlin. The park has various attractions, including a beautiful waterfall and a viewpoint with breathtaking city views. The waterfall, surrounded by different plants and greenery, is famous for picnics and relaxation. It’s a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and relax in nature.

In addition to the waterfall, the Viktoriapark also has a viewpoint that offers panoramic views of the city. The outlook is located at the top of the park, next to a memorial to the victory over Napoleon Bonaparte and the redemption of Europe from French domination through the wars of liberation.

Viktoriapark is more than a park in the middle of Kreuzberg; this park is the reason why Kreuzberg has its name. But there are even more to see in this park. On top of the hill, there is a national monument to the victorious campaign over Napoleon Bonaparte and the liberation of Europe from French domination. From the top, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city that becomes even more special during New Year's Eve when there are fireworks everywhere.
Nothing beats having everything you'll need before hand, huh? The old saying %22Better safe than sorry%22 is one of the pillars of travel photography. If I'm giving you travel photography tips for something with a lot of snow, you will probably not be able to use if the place you'll be traveling in winter does not snow during the winter months, right? Don’t leave it to chance and learn as much as you can about the place you are about to travel. Learn if you're doing hike, if will be nature or city, if you will be seeing things from above or from the ground... Basically all the information you need to know to choose wisely when you're packing. On this post here I told you all a bit of what's on my bag, remember?

The Roof of the Reichstag

The Reichstag is a historic building and is home to the German parliament. The building is a popular tourist spot and offers a variety of attractions, including a glass dome with breathtaking views of the city. One of the main attractions at the Reichstag is the glass dome, which sits atop the building and offers panoramic views of the city.

In addition to the glass dome, the Reichstag also has a restaurant, which is located on the top floor of the building and offers a menu of delicious German and international dishes. We have never been to the restaurant but only heard good things about it, so we had to add it here.

The Monkey Bar in West Berlin

The Monkey Bar is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. Situated on the rooftop of the 25hours Hotel, the Monkey Bar offers breathtaking views of the city and a laid-back atmosphere. One of the main attractions at the Monkey Bar is the rooftop terrace, which offers panoramic views of the city and the nearby Tiergarten Park.

Overall, the Monkey Bar is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to experience the beauty of Berlin from above.

The Flakturm in Humbolthain

The Flakturm is a former anti-aircraft tower used by the Nazis during World War II to defend Berlin from Allied bombings. If you are interested in the history of this place, Berlin Unterwelten offers extraordinary tours of the structure.

One of the most exciting things about the Flakturm Humboldthain is the observation deck, which offers some of the best views of Berlin. The deck is 67 meters high and provides a great view of the city’s north side, including Teufelsberg. It used to be a great place to plane spot when Tegel Airport was still in use.

If all these places are not enough for your panoramic view hunger, we can only advise you to buy a drone as we did. We use our DJI Mavic Mini to see Berlin from different angles, and we love how the city looks from the top. You’ll also love it.

Generations of Berliners have been to Körnerpark, enjoying themselves in this oasis of peace in the midst of a hectic Neukölln. People go there to play football, to run, walk, relax, picnic and we do it too. In 2016, this Neukölln hidden gem celebrated its 100th year birthday and we are here to show you all why you need to go there and sing happy birthday to it.
The south part of Tempelhof, between the train tracks of the Ringbahn and one of the landing strips, is outside of the Enhanced Warning Zones that surrounds the Reichstag and most of Berlin. And, since there is a lot of space available, this area is one of the easiest ones to fly in town.
