Analog Photography in Berlin

Tired of the digital monotony and seeking a more fulfilling photographic experience?

Late in 2023, I discovered a way to use 35mm film on a medium-format camera and was eager to try it out. I asked a friend to 3D print the pieces needed to hold the smaller film in place, and a month ago, I finally took my camera out to test this visual idea.

From Film to Zine

I began creating my analog photography zines when I recognized my desire to showcase my film photos beyond the digital space.

The Court Pond, known in Dutch as the Hofvijver, is a gorgeous artificial lake in the center of The Hague. The surrounding area is the place where The Hague came to life for the first time, and this is the reason why we decided to spend some time taking pictures on its shores when we visited this great Dutch city back in the winter of 2019.

We visited the Bauhaus Museum in Dessau back in the summer of 2021. During that trip, we visited Dresden, Leipzig, Halle and Dessau, and this museum was one of the most memorable parts. It was the first destination on our trip to celebrate the COVID-19 booster shot.

My goal for Easter Sunday was to fly my drone over Blub and capture how it looks like from the sky. But, once I got closer to the building, I realized that it would be better to just enter the place. The holes on the fences are more prominent than before, and there were lots of people inside, taking pictures of the abandoned buildings and sunbathing during that lazy afternoon.

Lost Paradise: The Rise and Fall of Blub Berlin

During Easter Sunday 2020, I went to Blub one more time. This would be my first visit in over five years, and I was inquisitive to see how it looked like after …

Tucked away close to the Ladbroke Grove Underground station, between the bookshop from the movie Notting Hill and Rough Trade West, you'll discover a hidden gem: a mural of the album art from Yorke's 2006 solo album, "The Eraser." If you're a fan of Thom Yorke's solo work or Radiohead's iconic sound, a trip to West London should be on your travel list.

The Gatower Mühle is one of eight windmills still standing in Berlin. This one can be found in Gatow, a neighbourhood south of Spandau and across the waters from Grunewald. And since we have been looking for windmills around Berlin for a while now, we had to write something about this one.

I was in Kaliningrad in the last days of October 2017, and the House of Soviets caught my attention since I arrived in the city. The building can be found in the middle of the central square of Kaliningrad, close to where the Königsberg Castle used to be but not quite there. The House of Soviets was built over the moat of the castle, and you can clearly see this in the following picture. There you can look at the ruins of the castle and the abandoned building in the back.

On the border of Mitte and Wedding lies Brunnenviertel, a neighborhood renowned for its inviting green spaces and tranquil, pedestrian-friendly courtyards. As dusk settles, a soft, romantic glow emanates from the area's distinctive spherical streetlamps. But there's a clever twist to that. Look closely, and you'll discover that many of these lamps are wearing hats. These are the Nightcaps, a brilliant public art installation that is both functional and fantastical.
