A brief story of the Abandoned Tempelhof Airplane

If you have been to Tempelhof as often as we did, you already know an abandoned airplane is in the grass area next to one of the landing strips. We call it the abandoned Tempelhof Airplane, but its real name is N106TA if we can call this a name.

We passed by bike a few times on our way to Adlershof, and we always wondered what it would look like from inside the fences. We knew about the abandoned Flugplatz Johannisthal for years, and we even tried to find our way a few years ago. Still, we only made it in early January 2021.

Flugplatz Johannisthal was one of Germany’s first commercial airfields when it opened to the public in September 1909. It is known to some as the birthplace of heavier-than-air flight in Germany since this is where airplanes were first used.

The year is 2019 and there is a kid missing in Winden. He is the person dealing marijuana to some of the kids in school, and nobody seems to know where he might be. One o the kids decided to put together a group and go looking for the stash of drugs from the missing kids. They follow some train tracks that lead deeper into the forest, while they go looking for a cave.

The Spreepark is an abandoned amusement park that has been laying abandoned close to the heart of Berlin for, at least, 15 years. When you enter the park and start walking around, you can see the remnants of the previous decades, and this is why this location is so unusual for people. From all the urban explorers that want to capture its decay to the hipsters that want to photograph something that looks cool.

The Spreepark is an abandoned amusement park that has been lying abandoned close to the heart of Berlin for at least, 15 years. When you enter the park and start walking around, you can see the remnants of the previous decades, and this is why this location is so unusual for people.

From all the urban explorers who want to capture its decay to the hipsters who want to photograph something that looks cool.

Far away from the tourists the flock Berlin there is a neighborhood called Kaulsdorf, and it’s there that you will find the lonely hippo known as Knautschke after a famous hippo that was born in the Berlin Zoo back in 1943. Knautschke has the entire Freibad Wernersee to himself but, when I was there, I didn’t see he enjoying much of it. Maybe it was cold; maybe it was the fact that the pool was frozen. Maybe he was just waiting for a time where he would have company, but this will, probably, never happen.
