Beigel Bake: Brick Lane’s Iconic Bakery & Late-Night Cravings Cure

A trip to London is only complete with a pilgrimage to Beigel Bake. This iconic Brick Lane bakery has been serving deliciousness since 1974. Whether in an early morning queue after a night out or simply craving an exceptional bagel, this 24/7 institution delivers.

My first time going to Beigel Bake was back in 2012. I was staying at a friend’s house in East London, and it was my first time exploring that part of the city. They took me on a walk around Shoreditch and Brick Lane, and we stopped for some amazing beers.

Years later, in the summer of 2022, I was back in East London with my girlfriend when we passed before Beigel Bake. I had forgotten about this place, and it all came back to me while we were there. We stopped, queued briefly, and had the best time there. The pictures you can see here are from that visit.

Beigel Bake: A Taste of East London History

Beigel Bake is more than just a bakery; it’s a landmark. Lodged in the heart of London’s East End, it is a testament to the area’s rich Jewish heritage. While trendy boutiques and coffee shops have sprung up, Beigel Bake remains a comforting constant, offering a taste of history alongside its famous bagels.

You’ll be swept away by the hustle and bustle when you step inside. The staff, masters of efficiency, keep the queue moving with military precision. So, don’t be deterred by the crowds and queues; the reward is worth it.

The star of the show, of course, is the bagel. Freshly baked and perfectly chewy, it’s ideal for Beigel Bake’s signature fillings. The salt beef bagel is legendary: thick-cut, melt-in-your-mouth beef, a generous dollop of mustard, and a tangy gherkin, all encased in warm, doughy goodness. That is the one anyone should try on their first visit.

But the menu continues. Smoked salmon, cream cheese, and other options ensure a bagel to suit every palate. No matter your choice at Beigel Bake, be prepared to devour it outside—it’s simply too tempting to wait!

But there are more than just Bagels here.

While the bagels are undoubtedly the main attraction, Beigel Bake offers other goodies worth trying. Some friends mentioned to me that their pastries and cakes are delightful, but we have yet to have the opportunity to try them out. Also, I read online in some reviews that their chopped liver is a favorite among regulars, which I want to try for real.

Whether you’re a local or a tourist, a foodie, or a curious traveler like me, Beigel Bake is a London experience to be noticed. It’s a place where history, culture, and culinary excellence merge, creating a truly unforgettable meal.

So, stop by next time you’re in East London – your taste buds will thank you.
