I have shared Berlin videos here before, but none have captured my attention for a long time, like the “Berlin, Where I Live” video by Schusei, so I knew I had to post it here.
First, the overall aesthetic of the video is perfect. The winter atmosphere, the beauty of a cold sunny day that appears in some shots; this is the kind of day I enjoy going for a walk with my cameras.
Second, I love that Schusei decided to show where they live. This is a Berlin video focused on the perspective of someone who lives in the city, not someone who is visiting it and showing the same places over and over again.
Schusei also goes around a big part of what I consider to be my Berlin. The video starts around Görlitzer Park and the U-Bahn station there, and I took way too many pictures from those train tracks. There is a gorgeous shot of a misty Tempelhofer Feld that reminds me of some of my early spring bike rides. Kottbusser Tor appears, too, on a rainy day, making everything look like a Blade Runner movie, and I love it.
Of course, some more popular areas of the city show up in the video as well. The Berliner Fernsehturm follows us everywhere we go, and it does the same here. Potsdamer Platz looks even more like a Blade Runner movie with its lights and their reflection on the wet floor.
It’s too bad that Neukölln, the neighborhood where I live in Berlin, only shows up briefly, but I don’t mind. The video is good even without it!
If you want to see a Berlin video without the cliches that you can spot in so many YouTube videos, “Berlin, Where I Live” by Schusei is the way to go. And I look forward to seeing more of it on their YouTube account.
