If you like beer and are ever in Leipzig, Germany, you must check out the Sternburg Brewery tour! This is what I did with some friends in the summer of 2023 to celebrate my birthday in a special way.
Since I moved to Berlin in 2012, I have been intrigued by the beer choices that I have available. I have been curious about different beers and their costs since the beginning, and this is how I found Sternburg.
Sternburg is a super popular beer in Germany, especially on the east side of the country. It’s flavorful, affordable, and a big part of Leipzig’s culture. You can often find it in Berlin spätis for prices that, nowadays, range from 0,80€ to 1,50€ in fancier places.
It’s easily one of my favorite beers, and I was really happy to be able to visit the brewery for my birthday.
So, What’s Sternburg All About?
Sternburg beer has been a Leipzig tradition since 1822! Yep, they’ve been making the good stuff for two centuries! What sets Sternburg apart is that they’ve always focused on making a delicious beer that everyone can afford.
And they’re all about making their beer the right way. They only use high-quality ingredients, follow strict German brewing rules, and even ensure their beer is vegan.
Sternburg is also big on being eco-friendly. They’re always finding ways to reduce waste and reuse stuff like bottles. Basically, they are amazing, like their beers!
Leipzig Must-Do: Experience the Sternburg Brewery Tour
I wanted to do something great for my birthday in 2023. Leipzig was on my radar since I had an amazing time in town in the summer of 2021 and wanted to go back.
During that trip, I remember trying to book a brewery tour. Still, the pandemic protocols didn’t allow people to visit the factory. I understood the problem and kept that thought in my mind.
As time passed and the pandemic started to fade, the opportunity for a Sternburg Brewery Tour was on my horizon. And this is what I did with a few friends during a fantastic Saturday afternoon!
The Sternburg Brewery tour was incredible! Here’s why:
- Learn Beer-Making Secrets: You’ll see everything that goes into making your favorite brew, from filtering the ingredients to bottling the beer. It’s a fascinating process for beer nerds like me.
- Modern Tech: Sternburg’s brewery is super modern. It has massive tanks and cool machines that help the brewers do their thing.
- Fan Fun: Sternburg fans will go crazy for the Sterni meeting spot. It’s got all sorts of cool merchandise and stories about the brand.
- But the best part is the tasting! The tour ends with the best part—sampling some Sternburg beers!
The tour takes about two hours and costs only 8 euros – totally worth it! You can book online or sometimes just show up (but booking ahead is better to be safe). Especially if you need the tour to be in English.
Why You Need to Book a Sternburg Tour in Leipzig
If you’re a beer fan, the Sternburg tour is a no-brainer. You have to go to this holy place. It’s fun and fascinating, and you can try some delicious brews. Plus, it’s a great way to experience a piece of Leipzig’s unique beer culture.
The Sternburg Brewery tour was easily the best birthday experience I had in the last few years. It was great to see how my favorite beer is made and to travel to Leipzig with my friends. If you are a Sternburg fan, you should do the same.
