Like I said before, We Will Forget Soon is a fantastic book that documents a part of German history that most people don’t like to talk about but that needs to be told. Dario-Jacopo Laganá and Stefano Corso did a fantastic job with their book, and I believe that everybody that has some interest in this part of history needs to have this on their bookshelf.

When David Bowie died, in early 2016, we were surprised to read a tweet from the German Foreign Office mentioning how he helped bring down the Berlin Wall. We read it and started looking for a David Bowie Berlin Concert so we could see him in action. One of the first items we found was the Glass Spider Tour of 1987 that became legendary for a lot of reasons. Some say it was the worst tour Bowie ever did. Below we’re going to explain you this concert in Berlin.

If you ever wondered why Strasse des 17. Juni has its name, you have to watch this short movie from British Pathé from the Berlin Riots of 1953. This short movie is not a documentary but a newsreel report about the uprising of workers against the Communist Regime in East Germany. This is the real deal, not an interpretation of what happened.

The Soviet Union had a strange obsession with statues. But the Soviet Union is gone for a long time now and where have all these statues gone? I not sure about most of them but I manage to find some of them in what could be described as a Soviet Statue Graveyard in Tallinn. And I’m here to share with you what I saw there.

The Berlin Wall is the reason why Berlin had some ghost stations. Most of them were on the S-Bahn line S2, the U-Bahn line U6 and the U8. Those lines travelled through what was then East Berlin on their way back into West Berlin. Trains could go through it but the stations were sealed off and heavily guarded. This happened because, when the Berlin Wall went up, some people realized that they could escape using the train lines. After the East German police realized that, they closed down the stations. This way the stations couldn’t be used as a possible mean to escape to West Berlin.

The Berlin Wall was a scar that can still be seen today in the german capital. It split the city into east and west, capitalism and communism, from 1961 to 1989. When it fell, it united the country again and made Germany what it is today.

The Neon Muzeum, with a Z, is a museum dedicated to the preservation and documentation of Poland’s cold war era neon signs and they do this really well. As you walk the hallways of this small museum, you will see a lot of neon signs and learn a lot about where they were, how they were used and how did they manage to get to the Neon Museum.

In the 1960’s the area around what was known as Leninplatz worked as a breaking pointing between Friedrichshain and Alexanderplatz. It was there that, gradually, the buildings started to look bigger and bigger resulting on what was the center of East Berlin at Alexanderplatz. But it wasn’t always like that.

Even though the Cold War ended more than 25 years ago, you can see remains of it everywhere. The Berlin Wall, the most famous symbol of it, is easily found around Berlin but this is not the only relic that still stands and Martin Roemers is here to show us those decaying testaments of a world that doesn’t exist anymore.

Wrocław is the historical capital of Silesia and the largest city and the capital of Lower Silesian Voivodship in Poland. Fotostrasse was there for a few days in early 2015 and we fell in love with this city that hosts almost a million people. The first thing we did when we got to Saint Petersburg with the guys from Timetravels was the visit to the Sphinx of Saint Petersburg. Such an unexpected sight to have in Russia. It is even more weird when you look across the river into all the neo-classical palaces and building overlooking the waters. Somehow it felt like a weird trip back in time.

The St Petersburg Metro is one of the most beautiful underground railway system we ever had the pleasure of visiting. First opened in 1955, the metro of Saint Petersburg in Russia is one of the busiest in the world with five subway lines, 67 stations, over 3.000 trains and 2.5 million passengers a day. We did visited the St Petersburg Metro when we visited Russia in May and we took pictures of everything.
