Birrificio Lambrate is a cool, small brewery in Milan, with spectacular beers. And this is coming from a girl that refuses to accept birra as beer – after all, I live in Germany, you know? I’m a spoiled kid.
Everybody knows that the world’s best food is Italian, but I must say that I was shocked to discover that some of the best craft beers I had in my life were in Italy. Why? I have this theory that countries with good wine have awful beer, and countries with fantastic beer will usually be disappointed with their wine.
But let me tell you more about Birrificio Lambrate and how we ended up there.
One of the few free days we had in Milan, we used to explore the whole city – and when I say “the whole city,” you read 0,01% of the town since Milan is enormous and full of life and activities.
After a long day of walking over 20km, going up and down to take amazing shots of this beautiful city and more, I was daydreaming about a cold and fantastic beer for a relaxing time.
Luckily, our super friends from The Crowded Planet are based in Milan, and they took us around to fulfill my needs. We ended up on this hidden gem called Birrificio Lambrate.
Fun Fact: You’re right if you think Lambrate sounds too much like Lambretta, the famous motor scooter super standard in the 50s! Lambretta was actually named after this incredible district we went to.
Birrificio Lambrate is close to the subway station that follows the district’s name, so even though it is far from the center, you can easily reach Birrificio Lambrate without a problem.
Birrificio Lambrate is actually 2 places, and we went to the old bar since the new – and more significant – bar was closed. All the photos are from the small bar but do not worry if you go there and find no tables inside to sit down. Part of the fun is drinking and interacting like locals do: grab a beer and go outside to enjoy the fantastic weather! Personally, I love to drink outside way more than inside.
Birrificio Lambrate usually has more than 10 different kinds of craft beer for you to choose from – all from the tap! (picture me over excited now!) From stout made with chocolate to double IPA and much more – Birrificio Lambrate is heaven in a world of awful Birra Moretti.
