Germany: Way More Than Just Beer & Sausages

Germany is an amazing country with so much to see and do! This page is about my travels through Germany, and I’m excited to share some of my favorite places with you.

We’ll start in Berlin, where we live, where you can explore iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and learn about the city’s fascinating history. Then, we’ll head to Dresden, a completely rebuilt city after World War II. You won’t believe how beautiful it is now!

Have you ever been to Potsdam? It’s home to the incredible Sanssouci Palace and the unique Einstein Tower. We’ll also visit the Bauhaus school in Dessau, a must-see for anyone interested in art and design. And if you’re looking for something different, we’ll check out the Mustard Museum in Cologne!

The first time that I went to Steglitz was to visit a Primark since they only had one shop in Berlin and the shop was in this part of the city that I had never been before. That visit was 2012, and it was then that my obsession with the Bierpinsel started. That day was the first time that I had seen anything as weird looking as that building, and it was, also, my first contact with Architectural Brutalism. After that building, it was love at first sight.

While I was browsing through these books, I realized that I have been to a lot of different places in Berlin and that, maybe, I should just write down my list of places to see in Berlin. Yeah, so this is my list of places to see in the beautiful German capital. These are the places that I bring my friends when they are visiting me; these are some of the places that I bring my family when they come here. These places are here because I like them. I might like the food there; I may like the experience of being there, I might like the history behind. And I believe that you should visit them.

The Central Animal Laboratory of the Freie Universität is one of the best examples of Brutalist architecture in Berlin, and we visited the building at the end of December 2016 to see this strange looking building in the middle of Lichterfelde. It took us a while to find it, but once you see it, there is no way of ignoring it based on its monstrous appearance and the contrast with the area surrounding it.

Inside the 25hours Hotel Berlin, you will find almost 150 rooms in a modernist building from the 1950s. The building had seen better days in the past, and it was neglected for quite a while before Bikini-Haus came into existence with its shops, restaurants, and lifestyle.
