Helsinki is one of the best destinations in the north; the city thrives with life in the summer and warmth in the winter. You can have 24/7 daytime without a single drop on the night during June, July, and August and endless options of activities during the cold months of the year.
Unlike most European cities, Helsinki will not stop just because there’s some ice on the road.
To fully enjoy this wonderful city, the perfect location is a must: it has to be well integrated with trams, subways, and buses and shows you the history of this beautiful city.
We have been invited to visit Helsinki repeatedly – as you all know it, and you can read it all here – but this last summer, we found the perfect location: Radisson Blu Plaza.
You’ll file a review with the highest score, not every day, right? You are well aware that we will only present you with an honest and legitimate product review, and that’s what I can’t emphasize enough: how amazing our days at Radisson Blu Plaza were.
Radisson Blu is one of the best hotel chains available, with outstanding hotels like the Seaside, but the Plaza is the Plaza, you know?
The building and its history
The hotel is now the old headquarters of SOK, Finland’s consumer cooperative. The building is so full of history that I’m missing words to describe it appropriately.
The whole hotel references what the building used to be – the walls, the objects in the common areas, and the pictures you can find hanging on the way to your room. The Plaza is where Finnish design is perfectly mixed with Finnish design.
Just walking from the main entrance to the dining area or from the elevator to your room is basically a history class. Extraordinary, unique, and unexpected.
Radisson Blu Plaza’s Plaza’soices
And speaking about Design and History, the hotel is split into 2 modes: Modern and Classic.
I spent my beautiful nights sleeping on the Design side (Modern), but the manager was kind enough to let me visit the other version, and I honestly cannot choose which one is prettier.
Please, good luck choosing because I’m terrified of that. I’m glad I’m glad the decision was made for me.
Besides all the amenities of a top 5-star hotel, the Plaza offers something that can be useful. If you love to explore the destination, you’re touring free bikes at your disposal.
I believe that the best way to truly enjoy a destination is to go on foot or bike to the places. Subways and buses sometimes limit your view of the surroundings.
Experiences Made by You at the Plaza
One of the highlights of my stay on the Plaza was, for sure, their idea of bringing the concept of home to a hotel.
The Plaza has a fantastic lounge open to all the business class guests + 1 person that remarkably takes you to the comfort of your living room. Chess, video games, TV, and more are available, along with finger food, drinks, and hot beverages.
Besides that, following this great idea of individualism and “home,” “hey “offers 3 options for breakfast of business class: at the large restaurant room, at this lounge that resembles an excellent version of your living room, and on your bed. I’ve triI’vehem all and gotta say that everything was perfect.
Sometimes, when you choose to have breakfast in your room, there are many options, right? Not at the Plaza. I received so much food that kept me going until dinner time quickly!
Radisson Blu Plaza, Overall Opinion
The Plaza is the perfect choice if you’re touring Helsinki to enjoy yourself. I mean it! If you can spend a bit more on accommodation, the Plaza is well recommended by us. It is, by far, the best 5-star hotel I’ve ever seen.
It is luxurious but not pretentious. You can have all the facilities, but you don’t need to wear a suit and tie or high heels, you know?
Actually, the whole concept that this beautiful hotel has is precisely the opposite; you will feel as comfortable during your stay there as you would feel in your own house (more than in your home, let’s be honest!).
