The Devil’s Column got its name from a legendary battle between the Devil and Saint Ambrose, who defended himself by pushing the Devil against the column behind him. This way, the Devil’s horn got stuck in the marble and made two holes in the column. And, today, you can still see the mark of the devil in there.

Hopfenreich is located in a surprisingly quiet corner in Kreuzberg. Close to the party center that is Schlesiches Tor, this is a place to taste some beers before you head towards another bar or go clubbing. At least, this is what I do when I visit this excellent craft beer bar.

There you will find beautifully dry-aged meat and homemade sausages, this sounds kind of pretentious and very hipster-like, but as we found out, they do it pretty fucking well.

Today, in 2019, there are still plans to restore parts of it and even open a new pier in the original location. But all these plans were seen to be unrealistic by the West Pier Trust. But you can still go to the beach and sit between the last columns of the pier and watch the burnt down ruins of the West Pier in the distance. They don’t look that far, but, at the same time, they feel like they are a million miles away.

So, this week of the #52weeksofburgers challenge, we get lazy around Neukölln and go to Burgerzimmer IV. Very close to the Boddinstraße U-Bahn station is one of many Burgerzimmers around the city, the place is bigger than most and looks a lot like your regular donner shop. As usual, you order your food, and you grab it when it’s done.
