What to do and Where to go in Berlin

Berlin is a city that has so much to offer, making it impossible to create a definitive “top 10” list. Whether you’re on a whirlwind tour or just want to hit the highlights, these are the articles I wrote about where to go and what to do in Berlin:

Most visitors to Berlin, even those curious about World War II history, miss one of the city’s greatest, most curious, and most impressive memorials, the Soviet War Memorial at Treptower Park. Treptower Park just might be the most impressive and important war memorial you never have heard of, demonstrating how a monument can both educate and facilitate reflection.

Check out the Soviet War Memorial in Berlin’s Treptower Park. It’s epic!

In a future Berlin, an Amish bartender works in a bar with his girlfriend, and that is the story behind Netflix’s almost hit called Mute. Directed by Duncan Jones, Mute shows a Berlin in 2052 that looks and feels like similar to the city where the director’s father, David Bowie, lived in the 1970s.

If you like Berlin techno, the web series After Hours might not be new for you. This documentary about Berlin’s techno scene premiered into the world back in 2009, on the long gone website 3min.de. After the site was gone, this music series disappeared from the internet but, this week, we found a page on Facebook that seems to be publishing all of the 12 episodes of the series into Youtube. Now, you can watch everything below!

The word Wandelism might sound weird to most people, and it happens for a reason. Wandelism is an amalgam made of the German word wandel, that means change and the English word vandalism. We visited the exhibition and you really need to see it with your own eyes. And before everything is gone!

Wandelism: A Week Long Street Art Exhibition in Berlin Wilmersdorf

For one week in 2018, Berlin had an urban art temple in Wilmersdorf called Wandelism. With more than 90 street artists from Berlin and beyond, this was a celebration of what Berlin is: a wild and colourful place. You could see various urban art styles, from graffiti to bombing, from art installation to contemporary art…

The Landwehr Canal is one of our favorite places to spend warm Saturday afternoons, just walking along it. But, it can be a pretty exciting place to explore in winter as well since, from time to time, it freezes completely. A frozen Landwehr Canal is what happened on the last weekend of February 2018, and we went there to take pictures of everything.

Back in 1999, local historian Christian Bormann found something that it wasn’t supposed to be lost. Nine years after demolition began, he found a piece of the Berlin Wall, somehow forgotten in the woods between a train station and a supermarket. More than 80 meters of the original Berlin Wall, built in 1961, is standing there, some with the V-shaped brackets that once had barbed wire on it. It’s hard to believe that something with this historical importance was lost and this is why we went there to see it with our own eyes.

Walled in! – The inner German border is a computer animation produced by Deutsche Welle together with the Berlin Wall Foundation to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall. The short movie describes in details the fortifications and the way that the border between East and West Germany was set up and it’s an excellent resource for those who want to know more about it.

After watching Nick Cave in Berlin on Stranger in a Strange Land, I started wondering where was his apartment. In the end, I think I finally managed to find out where did Nick Cave live in Berlin.

Where did Nick Cave live in Berlin?

After watching Nick Cave in Berlin in the Dutch documentary Stranger in a Strange Land, I started wondering where was the apartment where Bram van Splunteren interviewed the artist. This act of wonder became comprehensive research online, comparing Google Street View pictures with screenshots of videos. But, in the end…
