Fotostrasse visited the fantastic city of Zaandam, one of the hidden gems around Amsterdam and we are here to tell you the best things to do in there. Zaandam was built over its industries, being one of the leading cities in the first industrial revolution. One of its trademarks, the amazing windmills, were a big part of this industrial growth and until this day this is a very industrial city, but that doesn’t mean it loses any of its charms.

Before you arrive at Mariehamn by boat, there is a place you’re going to see. It’s a group of islets that seem to be the first glimpse of land, and even though there is a white pyramid there, this is not part of a fever dream. This is Kobba Klintar, an old pilot station that was used to assist the ships arriving in the capital of the Åland Islands.

This week of the #52weeksofburgers challenge Fotostrasse goes to Friedrichshain to try some Asian inspired burgers. We were going to a concert in the area, and this seemed like one of the most exciting choices around since we love some bao buns and it was super well rated for the burgers and lobster.

Hiding in plain sight, in the middle of El Raval, there is a small wooden door that was once attached to the Provincial Home for Maternity and Foundlings of Barcelona. Nowadays, that small round door looks more like a decoration than anything else, but that is the infamous Barcelona's baby drop-off. And, when we were in Barcelona, we had to visit the location and take pictures of it.

These Budapest Bullet Holes are how I called them before I realised what do they mean. I first saw them when I was walking around the Parliament Building, and I thought it was a little bit weird to have small iron balls over a wall. For a moment I thought it was some kind of abstract art and then I remembered the scars of the Second World War in Berlin and everything connected.

When I visited the Texas Embassy Memorial Plaque in London, I had a plan to visit some places around the city. A Sunday was walking around before I could do the check in on my hotel. The plaque was the first visit since I felt like there 'wouldn't be much to see besides the plaque, and I was right. Even though the location is historical for reasons that 'I'll be talking about later, there is not much to see. Keep that in mind if you want to visit it.

Muted Horn is one of my favourite craft beer bars in Berlin and, even though it can be found close to where I live, it took me a while to find out about this bar. I imagined it’s because of the unassuming glass and brick facade next to a discount supermarket and a mosque on the busy Flughafenstrasse.
